An ever-rising tide of information
resides on Windows file servers in companies of
all sizes. Office documents, spreadsheets, images,
and other types of content are stored in an increasingly
scattered landscape of server farms. Administrative
costs have exploded and data recovery times have
expanded to days instead of hours. In many cases
the Windows file server farms are simply no longer
manageable.
OpenStore for File Server resolves these pains
by physically offloading data from Windows NTFS
file systems to remote repositories whilst retaining
transparent user access to the data. Through
the
use of configurable archiving policies OpenStore
for File Server migrates files to IBM DB2 Content
Manager or IBM DB2 Content
Manager OnDemand. For each file it leaves a small
stub on the local server disk giving users transparent
access to the archived files. Archived files
can
be accessed like any other file by any Windows
applications and are automatically recalled,
when
they are opened.
OpenStore for File Server
significantly reduces the disk space required for
file servers, as
well as the effort and time required to administer
and backup those servers, and can guarantee
compliance with data retention regulations.
